saw this clip on Youtube of lil David during AI Season 1, he met up with Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Christina Christian, Jim Verraros & AJ Gill and sang to them. He sang "I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" and he was really good. Kelly and gang were so impressed!

There's also one where he sings behind the piano Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles". You can hear his voice sounds different than he does now, probably coz of his voice problems made him sound more raspy.

Tonight's performance was AMAZING. I sort of wish he had sung something else since we've already seen him sing Imagine (a couple years ago), but at the same time it was a perfect, beautiful choice. He's such a great singer and a cutie pie!

I don't think he is gay, he is simply a teenage kid trying to concentrate more on his music career than girls which I think is very smart of him. He is so passionate about music and I admire him for that. I guess he hasn't have much or any experience with girls but that doesn't mean he is gay! The breathing thing he does while he sings... is that because of his throat problem thingie? Or totally unrelated? Either way, we all know the producers want him to win, so someone will most likely point that breathing thing out to him so he can at least pull the mic away from his mouth when he needs to do it. But the question above is serious... is it related to the problem he's had in the past?

That was such a low blow, I could almost imagine the writer to be one of those Rita Skeeter type personalities. Did she really think the people at AI to be idiots and not be aware of the similarities between their renditions? They're people from the music business, after all, and I'm sure they'd know who Eva is, being practically a posthumous success. AI did acknowledge that it was Eva Cassidy's arrangement that David's performance was based from, the problem only being that it wasn't credited on the show.

David sang with his own heart and soul, even if Eva's arrangement could have influenced his. Besides, his own licks weren't exactly the same. After watching David's version tons of times, it's obvious he made his own additions.

I'd like to see that e-mail anyway, to fuel my anger even more, hopefully. lol.

The writer for the LA Times did email me back to actually thank me for my email in response to her article on David's rendition of Imagine. Her response:

I also never took note of it before, but once it started being mentioned everywhere I had to notice it as well - except this time with EVERY single song that I hear, not just with David. Kelly Clarkson does it herself, I think! What I mean is, I just think that someone found unusual interest in his breathing and everyone else just went along after hearing about it from others. Nothing too distracting about his habit.

It's that frequent lip-licking that I notice much more. There's no denying it's cute, though. :)

Yes, my wife has been commenting since we watched his rendition of "Heaven" just how loud and distracting this breathing is. She did comment that our voice teacher would have had a fit had either one of us did this even in lesson, let alone a performance. Good voice, some good musical stylizations, needs to go back to breathing 101. As another voice teacher once said, if they can hear you breathe, you aren't doing it right. You should be able to expand your lungs quietly and the air will be pulled in. If you are forcing air into your lungs, you are actually doing more work and possibly going to stress your vocal chords forcing the air that way.

I have noticed this about David's breathing as well. Certainly David is not the first to breathe too loudly when singing, in fact two winners- Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks do the same.

Last week I also noticed that David breathes this way when he speaks. That makes me wonder if there isn't some other cause for his loud breathing.

However, as a former flute teacher, I agree that the vocal coaches should work with him on this. I can't imagine he is supporting his sound as well as he could and if he did there is no telling how great his phrasing could be. Not to mention that gorgeous tone.

I'm not sure I remember seeing that much improvement during the seasons for most of the singers, though. I do remember seeing lots of improvement between the end of seasons and the tours. I've seen three tours and I remember that every contestant in Season 2 (except for one) had improved immensly between the end of the season and the tour.

Make me wish I could call David and give him some breathing pointers. ;)

I'm not a teen and I feel he is very talented and gifted in music, therefore, I vote for David. Next week is Neal Diamond week, considering his family genes, I would like to see David sing "Coming to America". I really feel he could put alot of soul into this song. According to Shirley Halperin of Entertainment Weekly, David Archuleta has signed (http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/10/david-archuleta.html?xid=rss-hollywoodinsider-20081007-David%20Archuleta%20signs%20with%20Azoff%20Managem ent) with “music powerhouse” Azoff Management.

David joins The Eagles, Christina Aguilera, Neil Diamond, and Morrissey on Azoff’s roster of clients. David’s father, Jeff Archuleta will be co-managing David’s music career with Azoff’s Jared Paul who also manages Nick Lachey and New Kids on the Block.

Diana DeGarmo, Bo Bice, and Katharine McPhee are fellow runners-up who, like Archie, did not sign on with 19M after Idol. Clay Aiken and Blake Lewis signed on, but neither of them are currently on 19M’s roster. Clay left 19 for the Firm in 2004, and Blake Lewis recently mentioned in interviews that he’s looking for new management.

Considering 19’s dubious track record with Idol runners-up, I’m not surprised David didn’t sign with them. Besides I don’t think 19M would have been interested in co-managing David with his father–or anyone else, for that matter.

While David’s music career won’t be managed by 19M, 19 Recordings will oversee the production of David’s debut album, due to drop on November 11 on the Jive label.

Also, Archie just posted a new blog on his My Space. He describes the whirlwind radio tour he’s been on as “really great” and then talks about seeing his fellow Idols over the weekend:


So before the radio promotion stuff started, I had a photo shoot for some teen magazines on Friday haha, and it was a lot of fun. Then, I went to Michael Johns’ birthday party and saw a lot of friends from the tour and show. I also got to hang out with Jason and Brooke over the weekend too. With Jason, we had some Mexican food and watched Eagle Eye haha. It was a pretty good movie, and it was fun to spend some time with Jason again since I haven’t really spent time with him for a while. With Brooke, she invited me to go to a store with her and we just messed around like dorks haha. We actually took pictures of looking at the clothes and trying stuff on lol. So I guess I’ll load some up! But yeah, we had a good time. I guess that’s all really for now.

All that voting people! We did IT!!! My heart is pounding! I apologize in advance for the spoiler, but this was just too big to keep to ourselves. Wildcard to #1 in three weeks is just plain amazing, astounding, brilliant, incredible, fantabulous, and barely believable!

David Archuleta’s First Week Sales Headed for #2, 225-240K

The industry magazine, Hits Daily Double just posted (http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/) their first week predictions for David Archuleta’s debut album:


Jive/ZLG American Idol runner-up David Archuleta is headed for an impressive 225-240k for his self-titled debut album, good for second place, thanks to the smash single, “Crush.”


There is a caveat, as this week’s predictions were based on Tuesday’s sales:


With Veteran’s Day this Tuesday and many consumers off work and out of school, Tuesday sales could be somewhat higher than normal.


Even if the final numbers are a bit lower–still GREAT first week sales for David. Congratulations all around!

Revised HDD Numbers - Now Expecting 200-210K Bow

Just as Hits Daily Double cautioned when they made their original prediction (http://mjsbigblog.com/david-archuletas-first-week-sales-headed-for-2-225-240k.htm) Wednesday of a 225-240k debut for David Archuleta, that one day sample, based on Veterans Day sales, was a little high.

David’s first week sales numbers have been revised (http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/) down to 200-210K. He’s still predicted to debut on the Billboard 200 at #2.


Youth will also be served in the #2 slot, which will be occupied by the debut Idol runner-up David Archuleta (Jive/ZLG), with a projected 200-210k.


Still excellent numbers for Archie, considering the free-fall music sales are currently experiencing.

America’s sales meltdown gathered even more pace last week, with just 7.02m albums sold – a massive 29% down on the same week in 2007. The American industry has suffered year-on-year losses continuously since 2000 but this year’s downturn is going to be the biggest yet – even before that 29% slump is factored in, year-to-date sales were down 12.6%, with 37,679,350 fewer albums sold thus far in 2008 compared to 2007 – a shortfall of nearly a million a week.

Just three albums sold more than 100,000 copies last week, whereas the entire Top 10 sold more than 100,000 in the same week last year. Leading this week’s list, the Twilight soundtrack - a hard rock selection, including new songs from Linkin Park, Paramore and Collective Soul among others – nabs the number one slot ahead of the film’s release, with sales of 164,710.


So, yeah. Awesome numbers for Archie.

I hope the Snarkies (http://www.snarkyarchies.com/) don’t mind, but I just had to yoink this photo of David Archuleta performing next to David Osmond, with the rest of the Osmond family, last night at the Capitol theater in Salt Lake City.

David Osmond auditioned for Season 8 of American Idol and is rumored (http://mjsbigblog.com/spoiler-update-more-names-for-the-hollywood-list.htm) to have advanced at least as far as the Hollywood Round.

Smart for David O. to be seen with David A. before the season starts. I’ll bet they had a lot to talk about.

He finished filming the video for “A Little Too Not Over You” this week, and he lost his cell phone on the way to tape a segment at Disney World, in Orlando. Plus, he ran into David Cook in front of “The Pirates of the Caribbean.” Reunion!

David Archuleta performed at the Holiday of Hope Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles last night. The event benefited One Heartland. David performed for the crowd, and helped Santa light the Christmas tree. He also performed at a special VIP reception before the tree lighting.

Poor David Archuleta needs an exterminator stat. His first mouse encounter (http://mjsbigblog.com/david-archuleta-blogs-a-mouse-in-the-house.htm) left him a little startled, but intact. The next one done ate his memories.

Oh and another thing. I have this drawer in my room where I keep a lot of memories in, like tickets, cd’s, papers, letters, etc.. and I open it up to put some more stuff… When I open it, all my papers are chewed up and there’s a nest mice made from all of my memories! I tried saving as much as I could, but there was a lot of damage done and I had to throw a lot away :(. But it’s ok because it was an excuse to clean up haha. So now I’ve been decluttering my room, which is taking forever because more things keep coming into it. I still haven’t gotten a lot of the boxes that I sent home during the Jingle shows, and most of the stuff from tour is in boxes elsewhere. So my room is pretty much uninhabitable. But I’ll hurry and clear things up before we leave. But anyway.. I apologize for my disorganized rambling that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

The rest of the blog post is all about the awesome time David had Jingleballjamiming all over the country. He’s done now, and all set to spend the holidays with the family.

David’s debut album David Archuleta has sold 430K so far, and should go gold in the next couple of weeks. Hey, maybe in time for his 18th birthday on December 28. It totally could happen–this weekend is the biggest retail weekend of the holiday season.

Oh, I hope you guys didn’t think I forgot about David Archuleta’s appearance on The Disney World Christmas Day Parade. I didn’t. I was waiting for a good quality video to turn up. Or, I would have cut my own once I got back from my trip.

One did turn up–thanks to TeamArchie for the postable vid.

Archie plays Disney spokesperson for a few minutes, pitching for Disney World in Orlando, and then eventually giving the audience a sneak peek of a new attraction, “The American Idol Experience” opening on February 12, 2009.
