What do you people like so much about Sanjaya? It can't possibly be his singing abilities, right? You all are just into his big cheesey smile, his "personality" (if that's what you can call it), and for how very very gay he is, right?

I am not trying to be rude, I just don't get it. I truly believe that nobody can respond to this and be like "everyone has different preferences for different voices... he's just not your thing". This one isn't about preferences... he's just not a good singer, even for an amateur. You can't deny that, right?

You could name almost any singer/artist out there, and even if I didn't like them, I would still be able to say "It's not my thing, but I can understand if you like them". But with Sanjaya, there's just no way.

I have never been so confused about anything, EVER... please explain.

PS - If I were even a LITTLE straight, I'd consider tapping his sister... BOING!

... and I'd make this same face...

I like sanjaya for the same reasons I like other entertainers, I enjoy his SINGING, his personality, which by the way is an amzing thing to have! You should check on that. And, also, I don't feel the need to justify why I like someone. My likes and dislikes are my own as are yours. Thank God we have the freedom of choice and are all different. What a boring world it would be if we all liked the same things, right?
Just agree to disagree, and all will be fine,. You can't make me NOT love Sanjaya, nor can I or would I even try to get you to like him if you don't.
The difference is, I don't post things trying to get you to justify your reasons.
Also, I don't think it makes you look very good to bad mouth someone just because you are not a fan. Sanjaya is NOT gay, and so what if he were. His choice, and I wouldn't like him any less.

Have a great day!

Dear confused, and likely just havin' fun with this group
(I didn't go to your links since you don't sound particularly sincere
but we'll see.)

Give a listen to an excerpt of his latest live performance, during the
time with Jordan and others of the AI6 finalists at the Superbowl-related
event this last week. It's an impromptu, live performance with lots of
audience noise, but you can probably hear enough. This is
a 256k-encoded mp3.

If you still think he can't sing, or if all you can think of is gay this or
gay that, then you can continue to sign 'Confused' ;-)

... and so, having failed to get a "rise" out of the Rickeyjayas on the picture thread, Brazenweep tried another tactic. Unfortunately, no-one would take the bait. :D

Just for the record, I like his voice.

And I've never liked anyone (in my personal life, or celeb wise) for his/her gayness or straightness. No offense, but that would be kinda dumb. :p

Obviously this is coming from someone who's never met Sanjaya.

I'll tell you what,
how about you 1)meet Sanjaya first, 2)get one of his famous hugs, 3)bury yourself in his neck and enhale his heavenly scent, 4) stare into his hazel eyes all while trying to fight the urge to unnecessarily fondle his impossibly smooth golden skin...

AND THEN YOU COME BACK AND TELL US WHY WE LIKE HIM!!!

Sound fair? ;)

Hmmm, I think you just confirmed what brazen was asking. You mentioned
aspects that fit his first two guesses re what it was you liked rather than
anything about his singing (which you didn't mention).

Liking his singing is obvious...;)
I figured Brazen was just teasing us.

I ADORE Sanjaya's singing (are you reading this Brazen?), in fact I even write poetry about wanting him to hold me in his arms and sing to me until the wee hours of the morning. :D

Thank you babyblue. Maybe I should start calling you "trueblue".

Yeah you can call it my opinion, but it's also my "experience". ;)
But my feelings for Sanjaya will always be a little different from everyone else's so...:)

Brazenweep:

I actually like Anthony Fedorov and Constantine Maroulis, too. Geez, Rickey hit 3 out of my favorite Idol contestants of all time (he forgot Clay Aiken :().

I actually enjoyed many of Sanjaya's performances on Idol last season. He really came out of his shell and becamse quite the performer.

Typically, I go for the better singers rather than the better performers, but something about Sanjaya spoke to me. I admit that I never thought he should win last season (even though I voted for him some weeks over 600 times), but I loved his presence on the show.

I understand he is studying voice with a pro now, so there is no telling how good he could become. I will definitely buy his debut CD when it comes out.

Hi, Margo! Nice to "see" you again.

I agree. Sanjaya will grow into a good, strong voice. He has much maturing to do. But it's all good!

Ok, I'll bite. Again.

I love Sanjaya's voice and I think he was the most versatile of the AI 6 contestants. He was the only one to sing a Spanish song on Latin night and he sang it beautifully. He perfectly captured the spirit of British Invasion invasion week despite the fact that he was obviously suffering from a head cold at the time. And Bathwater - OMG - THAT was brilliant!

I downloaded all of Sanjaya's available MP3s from the AI web site. You can hear his voice a lot better on the MP3s. He's a great singer and with coaching I am confident that he will surprise his critics. I think the negative hype may actually work in his favor. ;)

Sanjaya's biggest flaws during the show were inexperience and a bit of stage fright. But he has the charisma, the positive attitude, the vocal chops, and the versatility to develop into a serious artist. I strongly believe that he will have a long, successful career, but not without a few bumps along the way.

BTW, if you turn on the radio, flip the channels and really listen to a sampling of songs, you may notice that it is not necessary to have a voice comparable to that of an opera singer to succeed in popular music. Heck, Paula Abdul has won Grammys. That should tell you something...

Well said, Kapua.

OK, since we're giving sincere answers, I might as well talk about how, when I took a trip overseas without my husband last summer, Sanjaya sang me to sleep every night ;) I would put my headphones on and play Sanjaya's mp3's until I fell asleep. Like his singing? Uhhhh, yes.

His voice is amazingly versatile; listen to his mp3's and just contrast the smooth tones of Steppin' Out with my Baby and Cheek to Cheek, the sweet youthfulness of Waiting on the World to Change, the sultry sound of Besame Mucho, the energy-filled Bathwater, and the raw roughness of You Really Got Me. He pulls off each style convincingly.

Then take a look at his performances on the AI concert tour this summer. His vocals, dance moves and overall stage presence may very well surprise you.

It's all very well for us to tell you we like his voice, however. If you really want to understand the Sanjaya phenomenon, take the advice of the posters who took time to answer your query, and really check him out for yourself. I think you'll agree that his performances on AI didn't do him justice. If you don't agree, fair enough. We can disagree agreeably, right? :)

In my eyes Sanjaya is one of the best singers. K his voice might not be as powerful as some of the others but hes trying his best to please his fans. Hes the sweetest guy Ive ever seen. For example he came into the chat room on Daze just for valentines day and theres alot of other things too.

Isn't it the truth? Is he not the sweetest thing to come into chat & give a shout out to his peeps ON Valentines Day?! :) Not to mention his posting on positivity, as well.

My power went out last night resulting in my computer access ending until early this morning. So, I didn't get a chance to mention this news highlight in Rickeys new forum. But I'm pleased that it got posted nonetheless.

Lou is kind enough to forward me some "breaking news" like that from Daze. Helps keeps the non-Dazers informed.

Oh to have Sanjaya register on RF one day.

Hester

I agree, Rickey. I am grateful that you and Daze have such a great relationship, but I would love to see Sanjaya spread the love a little more. Of course, having said that, it's not like he's prolific on Daze, either. He only gives the occasional morsel there as it is. What am I saying, morsel? More like a crumb. :D

But such a welcome, tasty crumb it is, when you're starving. :D

I'm glad you posted about this, tho. It provides a nice segueway to a point I've been dying to make - that I can't wait to have something to post about on Rickey Forums that didn't come from Daze. It feels weird to be posting on here about what people are saying on Daze about Sanjaya.

Give us something (new) to talk about, Sanjaya!
