'So You Think You Can Dance': Chelsea Mourning
The hottie goes before the more likely eliminee, Comfort, while Chris succumbs to the inevitable
By Adam B. Vary EW.com (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20209166,00.html)
Well, that was certainly unexpected. I don't mean the results, exactly. I know I should be shocked that Chelsea was sent home, and grateful that Chris was finally sent packing, during last night's So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.ew.com/ew/allabout/0,,20000445,00.html) results show. What's unexpected, dear readers, is that I'm not. I can't muster the outrage or the relief. The more I mull over the judges' decisions — and mull is all any of us can do, since Nigel, apparently pressed for time, neglected to give any rationale for cutting Chelsea and Chris — the more the cold calculus of those decisions seems pretty plain, and the best I can do is shrug and mutter, ''Yeah, I guess that makes sense,'' at the TV.
Before I get too ahead of myself, though, I should also point out there were several things about the results show that were all with the (relatively) surprising. The inverted dust ruffle along Cat's neckline was a bit much, sure, but the outfit wasn't that kooky at all, really, and I can't even remember what Mary Murphy was wearing. Nigel, meanwhile, somehow pulled off a leather jacket. The guest dance performers didn't suck. The guest musical performer actually sang. And all six solos were at the least solid showcases for their respective dancers' core talents. Given the track record of the last two results shows, these are promising developments, indeed. (Even Cat's and Mary's sartorial restraint just makes the days they do break out the feathers, Bedazzler, and Hot Topic gift cards all that much more special.)
Of course, some things, thankfully, have remained reliably consistent. About halfway through the opening group dance number, I typed, ''I'm guessing this is Mia,'' into my laptop, since only Ms. Michaels could've conjured up this black-and-white fever dream of Alice in Wonderland aristocratic angst and rejection. (Wade Robson probably could've done it too, but he would've added ''homages'' to Moonwalker, ''Black or White,'' and, inexplicably, ''Remember the Time'' — oooo, I went there.) Again, Comfort enjoyed a sizable spotlight that very well could have kept her safe another week, and while Mark continued his season-long audition for the next Tim Burton movie (and I mean that as a compliment), I know that what will haunt my dreams once I'm done writing up this TV Watch will be the quick, non sequitur shot of Gev, in a crouch, tripping like a court jester who's just shot pure meth into his eyeball. (Shudder.)
Cat, thankfully, gave us little time to dwell on that batch of bizarre, quickly lining up Thayne and Chelsea, Katee and Joshua, and Mark and Chelsie to get their results. (It would appear the producers are big fans of that old Sesame Street standby ''One of These Things Is Not Like the Others.'') After Thayne and Chelsea headed off to prep their solos, I realized I neglected yesterday to mention the fierceness of Katee's new hair, and Chelsie did little to quell the rampant fan speculation that she views Mark at best like a tragically unhip big brother and at worst like a tragically disfigured runt cousin. Me, I just want to know why the two Mark and/or Cheslie supporters in the audience saw fit to don Grecian laurels.
NEXT: Nigel does impressions, too! (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20209166_2,00.html) NEXT: America's got talent (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20209166_3,00.html)

Some of my favorite 'So You Think You Can Dance' routines - Videos
Posted Jun 29th 2008 2:24PM by Kristin Sample
Source: TV Squad (http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/)
At first, I was a little disappointed with this season's So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.tvsquad.com/category/so-you-think-you-can-dance/). I found most of the routines underwhelming. Furthermore, Mary and Nigel constantly telling us that it's the "best dancers they've ever had" and the most "competition they've ever seen" is a red flag. I think most viewers, those with dance training and without, know what they like and why they like it. And viewers don't like being told they should like something.
So I started thinking about my favorite pieces from past seasons. I thought about how I got goose bumps when Anya and Danny did the Viennese Waltz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viennese_Waltz). I remembered how Benji's solos always put a smile on my face. I'll concede that season four hit it's stride after this week. But, you can't argue that previous seasons, especially two and three, left a lot for these new dancers to live up to.
Some of my favorite pieces from Fox's hit show are after the jump. I'll probably come up with more but here's something to start you off. Enjoy!
Let's start with that Danny / Anya waltz routine. Usually the Viennese Waltz, much like the Quick Step, can be the kiss of death on this show. But these two pulled it off beautifully. They looked so mature up there. Of course, it didn't hurt that both of them are stunning. I still get goose bumps when Danny turns her (sorry, I don't know the term). - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7zGCcwKlKg&eurl=http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/)
Last week, we saw another great Viennese Waltz by Twitch and Kherington. This was nicely danced as well, but the story behind it took it to a whole other level emotionally. I think this left a lot of viewers in tears. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXhSudhIc04&eurl=http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/)
Let's talk about Disco. So, far the disco this season has been drab. Courtney and Gev's piece the first week was too contrived. And I think everyone was a bit surprised that Will and Jess's routine didn't land them in the bottom three this week. (I will say that Will was wonderfully entertaining in it though.) Here's two disco routines you might have forgotten. Natalie and Musa's piece shows just how important it is to have a strong guy when it comes to partnering. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCCvBiZmx04&eurl=http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/) On the other hand, Lacey and Kameron's piece shows how important a great female partner can be. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT3BYytquzA&eurl=http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/)
This is hands-down my favorite Latin ballroom routine EVER on the show. Sure, I know you're going to say that Benji and Heidi had an advantage because they're cousins and dance partners (champions to boot). It still made for good entertainment. Try counting how many turns Heidi does. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzMaMmlgjBU&eurl=http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/)
We know by now that the solos are just as important as the duets on this solo. These are two of my favorite solos. It's hard to put it all out there in thirty seconds. They have to mix tricks and choreography. Plus the dancers have to relax enough so that they can show the judges how much joy they get from dance.
I love this solo by Natalie. She's very sexy and quirky. And that turn she does from the floor onto the tops of her feet is awesome. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHlpnMTAe6o&eurl=http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/) Benji's solo shows that ballroom dancers too can be amazing solo artists. He was there to win from the beginning. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLTtP97ScmQ&eurl=http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/)
Here's one of my favorite Wade Robson pieces. I think many of you will agree it's pretty darn good. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPUTJtb7NnM&eurl=http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/)
"Rama Lama Bang Bang" is one of my favorite group pieces. The song is fantastic. The choreography has just the right amount of kitsch. And the performance? Take a look. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z739b0OwJtA&eurl=http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/06/29/some-of-my-favorite-so-you-think-you-can-dance-routines-videos/)
So that's it for now. What are your favorite dances from past seasons? From this season? And how do you think season four measures up with past seasons?

Tony Winner Andy Blankenbuehler to Guest on TV's So You Think You Can Dance
by Broadway.com Staff (http://www.broadway.com/gen/Buzz_Story.aspx?ci=568067)
Tony Award-winning choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler is taking his moves to the small screen, acting as guest choreographer on the hit TV dance competition series So You Think You Can Dance on July 2. Blankenbuehler's work recently took home the 2008 Tony for In the Heights' (http://www.broadway.com/gen/show.aspx?SI=540419) contemporary and Latin influenced choreography.
The Emmy-nominated So You Think You Can Dance, now in its fourth season, pits 20 of the nation's best undiscovered dancers against one another in both pairs and solos, featuring footwork from genres, including Broadway, hip-hop, ballroom, salsa, contemporary and jazz. Previous guest choreographers have included Emmy Award winner Mia Michaels, hip-hop expert Shane Sparks, former N*SYNC and music video choreographer Wade Robson and Broadway's Good Vibrations choreographer Tyce DiOrio.
Blankenbuehler, who made his Broadway debut as a Havana dancer in the 1992 revival of Guys and Dolls, has appeared on the Great White Way in Steel Pier, Fosse, Saturday Night Fever and 2002's Man of La Mancha revival. In addition to In the Heights, Blankenbuehler choreographed the 2006 Broadway revival of The Apple Tree and the off-Broadway musical Burleigh Grimes. He is currently working on choreography for the new musical 9 to 5.

Some of my favorite 'So You Think You Can Dance' routines - Videos

At first, I was a little disappointed with this season's So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.tvsquad.com/category/so-you-think-you-can-dance/). I found most of the routines underwhelming. So that's it for now. What are your favorite dances from past seasons? From this season? And how do you think season four measures up with past seasons?
I'm probably leaving out some good ones, but off the top of my head, here are a few.
I really, really liked the "board room" dance with Sabra and Neil last season. It was something I had never seen before, and I love the song (Sweet Dreams... by Annie Lennox).
I also really like the Cha Cha Cha (I think it was cha cha cha) with Lacy and Danny. They were both pretty hot in that. I think this was choreographed by Dmitry, from Season 2.
The season before, I was really impressed with Donyelle and Benji. There were several from the two of them, so I couldn't pick just one. She also did a real hot dance with Dmitry.
So far, this season I do like Chelsea and Mark. He is quirky, but I enjoy watching them. They're probably my favorite couple, if I had to pick a couple. Individually, though, I think William is excellent. I could see him actually working in different genres after the show is over.
Anyway, I'm no dance expert, just a fan. I'd be interested in seeing what other peoples favorites are.

After a results show in which maybe two girls should have gone home, we rank the remaining top 10 dancers
By Adam B. Vary EW.com (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20211965,00.html)
I'm in mourning, dear readers. My snark demon, Smirkelstiltskin, has up and abandoned me. I would point the finger at the unkind comments about him in the message boards of late, but (1) the guy's a snark demon, so he pretty much lives on those things, and (2) he left a note explaining that he left me so he could nest in Cat Deeley's hair. I don't blame him, really. Why go to the chocolate shoppe twice a week when you can live on the factory floor? I'll miss you, dear Smirkel, but I'll sleep well knowing you're safely tucked in that well-tended, ever-changing thicket of blond ridiculousness.
In all other respects, meanwhile, last night's So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.ew.com/ew/allabout/0,,20000445,00.html) results show was pretty much shenanigan free. Napoleon and Tabitha's group number was tight and fresh (though it would've been cooler had it ended with the nite-lite track suits spelling out ''Dance,'' or ''Closer'' like the Ne-Yo song, don'tcha think?). The judges kept their nattering to a minimum — well, save when Nigel announced that Phillip Chbeeb and Robert Muraine will indeed dance off on the finale, only to completely dismiss the showdown as irrelevant mere moments later, but the man simply can't help himself. Thankfully yet unnervingly, Mary looked, behaved and even sounded like your average, non-shrieking Midwestern mom. A trio of dancers from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, our world-of-dance guests for the evening, schooled us on what serious, noncompeting, nonpartnered, professional contemporary dancing looks like, and brought the house down in the process. And while I couldn't tell whether Katy Perry (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20203057,00.html)'s voice was prerecorded or live, the fact that a show with such a tricky history with the homosexuality would welcome lyrics like ''I kissed a girl and I liked it....I hope my boyfriend don't mind it'' with nary a raised eyebrow or snippy comment from the peanut gallery — well, it certainly was refreshing.
And, unlike last season (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20047426,00.html), when Lauren inexplicably stole a top 10 slot from the far more consistent Anya, the right dancers were sent packing. Sorta. Within the show's one-man-one-woman rules, yes, Thayne and Comfort did deserve their tickets home, but wouldn't it have made for tremendous TV if Nigel had tossed the rule book into Cat's hair wigwam and announced that both Comfort and Jessica would be getting the boot and Thayne remaining to dance another day? Wouldn't it have been exactly the kind of shocker that would've jolted a new, exciting dynamic into the show, forcing the choreographers to come up with a routine for two guys (and, as the Alvin Ailey dancers ably demonstrated, not necessarily a romantic one) and break them of the been-there-seen-that sameness that's started creeping into many of the routines? Wouldn't it have put all the dancers on notice that the playing field was now completely level?
Woulda coulda shoulda, Nigel, but I do have to admit that as far as top 10s go, this one's pretty solid. In fact, after next week, things are gonna get seriously cutthroat, coming down to the strength of the routines in the week as much as season-long popularity and momentum. But — why not? — let's hazard a breakdown of the rest of the season anyway. In the spirit of Nigel's expressed desire to keep Thayne on into the top 10, however, I'm going to make my list gender blind, based solely on the dancers' perceived voter popularity and my own subjective opinion of their dancing thus far and their chances in the weeks ahead. So, in reverse order, my semifantasy SYTYCD season 4 top 10:

So You Think You Can Dance - Jessica King Injured - Comfort Fedoke Takes Her Place

Sorrow! For you Jessica King fans–or for those folks who were just happy that Comfort Fedoke was finally eliminated. I just saw this little item over at Zap2it.com (http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-kingsoyouthinkyoucandanceinjury,0,108804.story):
Less than a week after claiming a spot in the “So You Think You Can Dance” Top 10, hoofer Jessica King has exited the competition following an injury.
King will be replaced by Comfort Fedoke, the season’s most recently eliminated female contestant.
“I would like to say how sorry I am that Jessica cannot continue dancing in the competition at the advice of her doctor,” series producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe says in a statement. “Her full recovery is paramount and will only come with rest. We are fortunate that Comfort has agreed to rejoin the competition and know that under the circumstances she has Jessica’s full support.”
Nigel Lythgoe made the announcement at this morning’s Television Critics Association Press Tour session at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. He would not release the specifics of Jessica’s injury, just that the injury would take up to 5 weeks to heal.
Jessica had been paired up with William Wingfield in the competition. However, this week, the pairs break up, and eliminated contestants will be determined solely by viewer votes.
Buh bye all over again, Comfort!

So You Think You Can Dance is totally IV REAL
http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t197/AlanDale_photo/SYTYCD/sytycd_l.jpg
Jul 14, 2008, 09:21 AM | by Adam B. Vary
The most burning question about last week's episode of So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20211965,00.html) wasn't which one of the top 10 dancers is now the front runner. Nope, it was the mysterious "IV REAL" emblazoned across the shirts of a few of the dancers -- clearly, it stood for "For Real," but what the heck does that mean?
Well, we've got your answer. A rep for the show tells EW.com that, as many readers have already speculated on the SYTYCD TV Watch message boards, "IV REAL" is an inside joke among contestants Comfort, Joshua, Twitch, and Will about Dance's fourth season -- i.e. Season 4 = IV = FOR REAL.
Now we can move on to the second burning question of the night: What, exactly, was living in host Cat Deeley's hair?!

'So You Think You Can Dance': Why Mia Michaels is so mean
By Brill Bundy - July 14, 04:58 PM
Source: Zap2it.com (http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2008/07/so-you-think-yo.html)
So You Think You Can Dance choreographer/Judge Mia Michaels has been on a bit of a tear this season. During rehearsal for the first week's performances she said that she didn't think dancer Mark Kanemura was turning out as well as she thought he would. Then, last week she took Jessica King to task for being "carried" through the competition so far by her much stronger partner Will Wingfield.
But according to Michaels herself, she's just misunderstood and is merely practicing her own brand of tough love.
"What America doesn't know is the relationship," she explains at the TCA Summer Press Tour, saying that what she brings to the judging table is a choreographer's perspective. "There's a beautiful, beautiful collaboration and very nurturing [atmosphere]. For me especially, I nurture them. I'm Mamma Mia and they look to me for that tough love actually.
"So, when I say it, American might go, 'Oh my God, that's so harsh.' "[The dancers] are cool with it. They know. They know I only want them to be brilliant."
As anyone who has watched American Idol, or America's Next Top Model, or Project Runway, or Top Chef, or any reality show set in a highly competitive field knows, you have to have to work through the illnesses, the outside criticism and the self-doubt to make it to the finish line intact.
"You can't be a victim to be in the dance business," Michaels confirms. "You have to be a warrior."
"There was a time that I remember I was dancing on stage ... I broke both my toes: my big toe and the one next to it. I ran off the stage and I put them them right back in place and right back on stage and kept dancing, because that is what you have to do."
So she's not taken out of context, it should be noted Michaels said the above in response to a question about popper Robert Muraine dropping out of the competition during the Las Vegas auditions ... not about Jessica King who was suddenly benched due to an injury (http://blog.zap2it.com/korbitv/2008/07/the-story-behin.html) that will have her off her feet for weeks.

Tonight’s Guest Judge is Lil C
Only Courtney, Kherington, Katee and Chelsie are in the show’s introductions. After, Cat Deeley introduces Jessica King to explain why she’s not on the show. She had a pain in her side and found out that she fractured 1 rib and broke 2. The doctor told her she couldn’t dance if she wanted to heal for the tour. Cat says it was decided that the fairest thing was to bring back the last girl cut, Comfort Fedoke.

So You Think You Can Dance': Partnering Is Such Sweet Sorrow
With Jessica out and Comfort back, the dancers have to get used to their new partners, and some have lost a step
By Adam B. Vary EW.com (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20213054,00.html)
You've got to hand it to Jessica. After five weeks of the near-relentless drumbeat of ''you're not good enough, you're not as great as Will, you're not good enough,'' she makes it to this season's So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.ew.com/ew/allabout/0,,20000445,00.html) final 10 — only to be felled by some busted ribs. Then not only did Jessica have to sit in the audience and watch Comfort — a.k.a. her replacement, a.k.a. the dancer with at least five lives — give her best performance of the season; she also had to witness the judges rhapsodize over her former partner's two numbers with by far the best female dancer on the show. If it were me, I'd probably run screaming from the studio — well, maybe not run, given the broken ribs and skintight dress that may have been a medical necessity to hold in her torso. But certainly scurry. Instead, she stood her ground and smiled, giving all of us who secretly felt a twinge of bliss when we first heard she'd left the show (http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/07/sytycd-jessicas.html) an even bigger twinge of guilt for ever twinging in the first place. Erm, right.
But it was kind of a weird night, wasn't it, dear readers? Last week, my sister read me the riot act for praising Cat's ''Dress Barn'' ensemble from the top 12 performance show (her words), but even she's got to admit that Ms. Deeley's gold Saran Wrap number last night was pretty smashing (and a serendipitous nod to last night's Project Runway supermarket challenge (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20213007,00.html)). Yeah, Nigel was dressed like my middle school shop teacher, and Mary coined some real doozies: ''Happy's kind of a way station between too little and too much''; ''Dancing doesn't build character, it just reveals it''; ''I'm hopping on the Love Boat with this number!'' (The hot tamale train! It's been forsaken!) But for the most part, the judges went easy on the grating obnoxiousness, and krumper Lil' C proved himself as insightful a guest judge as the show's had this season, even if his syntactical style could get a wee bit convoluted. (A man after my own heart, really.)
Nope, it was some of the dancers and choreographers who irked me the most last night. Not a week after I fingered Mark as the dancer to beat this season, he delivered two lackluster numbers and a solo that was just a B+ when he really needed a solid A to stay out of the bottom four. Not that it's his fault entirely; Kherington did him no favors during their country two-step, dropping their spins and giving off the vibe that she never fully trusted him to be as physically strong a partner as Twitch. Indeed, the partnering charm I praised in Mark last week certainly didn't endear him to Kherington, which seems to be half the battle with the paired numbers. Meanwhile, they both ran out of gas as they entered the second half of Tyce Diorio's jazz number, but in fairness, so did the routine itself. Tyce has created eight dances for the show this season (including one group number), more than I believe any other choreographer, and his idea fatigue is starting to show, from the by-the-numbers steps to the choice of Jamiroquai's too-on-the-nose ''Canned Heat'' as the song.
NEXT: Tyce doesn't float our boat (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20213054_2,00.html) NEXT: Twitch's brick waltz (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20213054_3,00.html)

'So You Think You Can Dance': Kher-Less
Deprived of their partners, Kherington and Gev evidently lost their fan bases and are sent home; plus, Nigel choreographs, and our writer reveals his inner Lil' C
By Adam B. Vary EW.com (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20213360,00.html)
The exuberant Bollywood number that opened last night's So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.ew.com/ew/allabout/0,,20000445,00.html) results show was pretty much everything I'd hoped it would be (except, next year, it really ought to be the top 20 group number if it's ever going to look like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQHwKMPJFC0)). And Mia Michaels continued her season-long therapy session with an anguished all-girl group number about, um, milkmaids keening in grief over, um, something really, really, really sad. So probably not spilt milk. I kid; even if that anguish was so severe that it left me unable to catch up with it, the number was still pretty stunning. But with a simple three-and-two lineup, some (slightly off) step dancing, Broadway capering, and good ol' fashioned hoofing, plus — lawd, it's a miracle! — a single unbroken camera shot, Nigel Lythgoe's Five Guys Named Moe all-guys group number managed to steal the show. Well, shucks, Nigel, I'm impressed. Now let's keep those cameras steady and those editors idle for the rest of the season, how 'bout it?
As for the results, well, I can't say I'm exactly surprised. The bottom four of Gev, Comfort, Kherington, and Mark was pretty much preordained after Wednesday's performance show, and although I pegged Comfort to go home before Kherington yesterday, based on their numbers this week and their solos last night, Kher deserved the boot first. Comfort has soloed every week since the top 18 results show, and yet her solo last night may have been my favorite. It was pretty clear that she expected to go home, so the pressure was off, and it made her a better dancer. Kherington, though, was just the opposite. Mary called her a front-runner, but I think, as was the case with Kameron and Lacey last season, Kher's popularity ended up having more to do with Twitch's popularity than her own; when left alone, she couldn't define who she is as a dancer. As I write this, in fact, my colleague and fellow SYTYCD fanatic (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20207752,00.html) Alynda Wheat just e-mailed this to me: ''Kherington's solo: You are not Mark.'' No, indeed, she isn't. You don't end your solo with a shrug, Kher, even if you do think the judges are stinky-poo pants for hating all over your missed turns and perfunctory dancing, making America not vote for you. Although, for a show that just got nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Makeup for a Multi-Camera Series or a Special (Non-Prosthetic) — yes, that's the real category — you'd think they'd've had time to throw a little more eyeliner on the season's ordained Hollywood beauty before she got tossed on the cold, unforgiving streets.
But to be fair, Mark wasn't quite Mark this week. Even though he performed true solos on both nights and not just random dancing, I was disappointed that both were more hemmed in and (to use the judges' oft-repeated term) less expansively quirky — or, put in a less pejorative, we-don't-want-you-to-win way, unique, or unconventional, or singular, qualities a cursory YouTube search of ''Mark Kanemura'' shows he's capable of delivering in spades. (Seriously, could Nigel have been colder when he said he didn't have any words for Mark other than, essentially, that he's quirky?) Given how emphatically Mark nodded during Mary's annual ''you have no idea how hard this really is'' speech, I wonder if the fatigue factor is what's keeping his inner freak flag from fully flying.

Exclusive Interview: Gev Manoukian of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’
Friday, July 18, 2008
Who could forget Gev’s (http://www.buddytv.com/articles/so-you-think-you-can-dance/profile/gev-manoukian.aspx) audition this year for So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.buddytv.com/so-you-think-you-can-dance.aspx)? As if his breakdancing skills weren’t impressive enough, he showed off on a pair of ice skates! From that day on, Gev became a sentimental favorite, catapulting him this year’s Top 10. He was paired with contemporary dancer Courtney Galiano (http://www.buddytv.com/articles/so-you-think-you-can-dance/profile/courtney-galiano.aspx) for much of the competition. The two worked beautifully together and had great chemistry. Nigel even teased Gev, saying that when he got a new partner, he wasn’t as focused because he was still thinking of Courtney. Exclusive Interview: Kherington Payne of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’
Friday, July 18, 2008
When Jessica King (http://www.buddytv.com/articles/so-you-think-you-can-dance/profile/jessica-king.aspx) had to bow out of So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.buddytv.com/so-you-think-you-can-dance.aspx) due to an injury, Comfort Fedoke (http://www.buddytv.com/articles/so-you-think-you-can-dance/profile/comfort-fedoke.aspx) was brought back to take her place. When Comfort landed in the bottom two last night, it seemed apparent that she would be eliminated - again. Yet, it was Kherington Payne (http://www.buddytv.com/articles/so-you-think-you-can-dance/profile/kherington-payne.aspx) who ended up getting the boot, a results show that surprised everyone from the judges to the audience to her fellow dancers. Kherington took it all in stride, telling BuddyTV that she had prepared herself just in case it ended up being her who had to go home. She lit up the stage for much of the competition but the judges started to worry, in recent weeks, that she had lost her fire. Today, Kherington spoke to BuddyTV in an exclusive interview and addressed the issue. She also let us know what Mary said to her after her elimination and gave her true feelings on former partner, Twitch Boss (http://www.buddytv.com/articles/so-you-think-you-can-dance/profile/twitch-boss.aspx).
Below, you will find the complete transcript and mp3 of the interview.

Will 'SYTYCD' upstage 'DWTS' and 'HS Musical 2' at the Emmys?
Source: Los Angeles Times (http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_goldderby/2008/07/article-dance-1.html)
Looks like "Dancing With The Stars" (http://topics.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/dancing-with-the-stars) may be an Emmy wallflower again this year, at least when it comes to winning the award for choreography. "So You Think You Can Dance" (http://topics.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/so-you-think-you-can-dance) took three of the five slots and "High School Musical 2" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0810900/) took another, leaving Julianne Hough as the sole contender for teaching celebrities how to trip the light fantastic. (See full list of nominees HERE (http://theenvelope.latimes.com/env-08-emmy-list14-2008jul14-html,0,5884311.htmlstory).)
Last year, "Dancing With The Stars" was the lone loser while the high-energy "So You Think You Can Dance" took two of the Emmys (http://www.emmys.tv/) for choreography and "Tony Bennett: An American Classic" won the third. And two years ago, despite three nominations, "Dancing With The Stars" was left on the sidelines as "High School Musical" won the only Emmy awarded for choreography.
Overall, the boffo ratings of "Dancing" have not translated into much Emmy gold. Two years ago, the show went 2 for 6 with wins for technical direction and costumes. Last year it went 0 for 8 and this year it is also up for eight awards. Perhaps recent winner Kristi Yamaguchi (http://topics.latimes.com/entertainment/people/kristi-yamaguchi)'s Olympic gold medal for figure skating can rub off on the show when they start doling out those golden Emmys.
Right now "So You Think You Can Dance" is one of the hottest TV shows in America. Just last week "So You Think You Can Dance" won its time slot on Thursday night, drawing nearly 8 million viewers. Such intense interest in the sexy TV show right now (http://blogs.reuters.com/fanfare/2008/07/19/so-you-think-you-can-dance-narrows-field-to-8/) can only help to give it an extra kick in Emmy voting.

Personality trumps technique tonight, as Will, arguably the best technical dancer in this year’s competition is sent packing. He had the chops, but his stiff personality didn’t win the voters hearts. That James Brown routine with the wig–an example of trying way to hard–exemplified his inability to connect. All I can say about Comfort going home–It’s about time. Now, let’s hope she doesn’t have some sort of Carrie-rising-from-the-dead moment. At this point, I swear she could. Stay healthy, girls!

Nigel asks the viewing audience to “please educate yourself” and vote in the presidential election this year. That’s funny to me. Americans love to vote for their favorite reality show contestants. President of the United States? Maybe not so much. I vote for both! He pimps the website declareyourself.com.
The Bottom 2 Girls/Guys
* Cat begins calling out the contestants to the center stage one by one. Katee is first. She is SAFE, of course. Will takes center stage. And, he is one of the BOTTOM 2 GUYS. - Video (http://www.redlasso.com/ClipPlayer.aspx?id=99134524-4218-41a7-b4a0-b208c184dbf0)
* Comfort is next. She is the first girl in the BOTTOM 2 GIRLS. Next is Mark. HOLEE CRAP MARK IS SAFE!!! There go my points. Mark is totally shocked, “Oh my GOD WHAT? WHAT?” He says. - Video (http://www.redlasso.com/ClipPlayer.aspx?id=7341d4e0-5415-4d16-a6fd-c2e88c13197e)
* Chelsie takes center stage. She is SAFE. The dancers left backstage look REAL nervous. Next, is Twitch. He’s in the BOTTOM 2 guys. He turns his back to the audience, clearly upset. He probably thinks he’s going home, but I don’t think so. Joshua is next. We already know that he’s SAFE. Courtney also already knows she’s in the BOTTOM 2 GIRLS. - Video (http://www.redlasso.com/ClipPlayer.aspx?id=078252e0-5aa2-49a6-96bd-2752b5775a6b)
In the Bottom, and dancing solo later are: Will, Comfort, Twitch and Courtney.

Check out the Emmy nominees for Best Choreography
July 24, 2008, 09:30 AM | by Lisa Raphael
Source: Popwatch.EW.com (http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/07/your-favorite-d.html)
Usually, I set my DVR to record an awards show, start in an hour or so late, and fast-forward all of the long-winded, boring blah blah blah to get to the good stuff. For the Emmys? Best actor, actress, supporting, best comedy, best drama, and...scene! This year, though, I'm making sure to pay attention to the Outstanding Choreography category -- since the five nominees include some spectacular routines from High School Musical 2, Dancing With the Stars, and So You Think You Can Dance.
First up among the nominees are High School Musical 2's Kenny Ortega, Charles Kapow, and Bonnie Story -- SYTYCD fans out there, you might remember Story's daughter Kelli Baker, who tried out this season (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvWkZ8ke9_Y) but didn't make the Top 20 -- for the routines "What Time Is It?" (embedded below) "Fabulous," "Work This Out," "I Don't Dance," "You Are The Music In Me," and "For One." While I'm really only into HSM to indulge in my barely legal love of Zac Efron, I have to admit that the part with the basketball balancing is pretty fancy. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANRKUJbHcPg&eurl=http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/07/your-favorite-d.html)
Check out the four dance numbers attempting to stop the HSM2 juggernaut -- then declare your favorite...
At the opposite end of HSM's demographic spectrum, Dancing With the Stars' Julianne Hough was nominated for her "Para los Rumberos" mambo with partner Helio Castroneves. This one was good, but I prefer Hough's routines with unicycles (http://youtube.com/watch?v=87iI9a36FfU) and funnyman partners. Maybe next year they'll give her a sympathy nod for pulling Adam Carolla around the floor in the sixth season. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_04mt7XZd74&eurl=http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/07/your-favorite-d.html)
So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.ew.com/ew/allabout/0,,20000445,00.html) dominates the rest of the category with a lineup of routines that still manage to give me the chills the second (okay, um third... or fifteenth) time around, and even in grainy YouTube form. It's hard to pick my favorite of these three, but this Shane Sparks hip-hop routine was easily the most fun! Sparks played into last year's Transformers hype, and literally turned Lauren and ballroom-trained Pasha into dancing machines to the tune of Pitbull's "Fuego." - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vD6AeQqQ3qc&eurl=http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/07/your-favorite-d.html)
SYTYCD's second nod goes to choreographer (not '90s pop star and occasional actress) Mandy Moore, who created a surprisingly steamy jazz routine for Sabra and Neil using the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams" and a simple table. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apXMS__dvic&eurl=http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/07/your-favorite-d.html)
My vote, though, goes to the following Wade Robson piece, which used "The Chairman's Waltz" from Memoirs of a Geisha to truly moving effect. Watch the metamorphosis as B-boy Hok turns into a prettily popping/locking hummingbird and Jaimie into a blooming flower. - Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wz_jEQPY2U&eurl=http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/07/your-favorite-d.html)
One name noticeably missing from the list this year is So You Think You Can Dance's Mia Michaels. She's a force on the show whether she's molding the contestants for her beautiful (http://youtube.com/watch?v=SBhR2gfdOZw&feature=related) - routines (http://youtube.com/watch?v=CwnlnGvAq9M) or bestowing harsh criticism or quirky compliments (http://www.ew.com/ew/video/soundbites?bcpid=1507884589&bclid=1631239605&bctid=1657894266) alongside Nigel. Maybe we should add the contemporary choreographer to our list of Emmy snubs (http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20213234,00.html)?

'So You Think You Can Dance': A Falling Star
On elimination night, Will, one of the early breakout contestants, is sent home; meanwhile, Comfort is eliminated for the second time
By Christian Blauvelt EW.com (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20214941,00.html?iid=top25-20080725-%27So+You+Think+You+Can+Dance%27+recap%3A+A+star+i s+gone)
Welcome, So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.ew.com/ew/allabout/0,,20000445,00.html) fans! I will be your guide/fellow Cat Deeley obsessive as we journey through last night's devastating results episode. But beware! This is the mating season of the Lythgoe. Actually, it's always mating season for the Lythgoe. And I strongly advise that you don the protective earmuffs when traveling through Mary Murphy's hunting territory. I can't hope to match the skill and expertise of the great Adam B. Vary or last night (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20214672,00.html)'s guide, Lisa Raphael, but hopefully we can get through this together. I guess I'm just worried that if you SYTYCD fans out there hate my TV Watch, you'll all march here with torches and pitchforks, strap me down, and force me to listen to Mary's screech until the point of madness.
I will confess: I am more a fan of Dancing With The Stars (http://www.ew.com/ew/allabout/0,,20000351,00.html) than I am of So You Think You Can Dance. ''Heresy!'' many of you will cry! But for me a dancing show isn't complete without Tom Bergeron incessantly cawing ''Liiiiiiiiiiiive!'' Or without paso dobles set to the Superman theme. That said, few hosts on television today can hold their own against the ease and elegance of Cat Deeley, who contrasted Wednesday's killer black frock with an off-white Grecian ensemble that made me want to call her Terpsichore, the muse of dance.
After the cheesy title music, which seems like it could be featured in an afternoon parade at Disney's Animal Kingdom, we got down to yet another group dance. Of course, it would be impossible to top last week's hyperkinetic Bollywood fantasia, but this week's hip-hop number, set to Common's ''Universal Mind Control (UMC)'' felt like a letdown. It didn't help that the techno-rave lighting scheme almost made it impossible to identify the dancers, let alone make sense of their dancing. This isn't So You Think You Can Light a Reality Competition! The number felt less like a hoppin' Studio 54 than it did Captain Eo. Actually, Captain Eo is a memory I visit more and more these days, especially when watching this show. I did, however, love Courtney Galiano's Bride of Frankenstein rag-doll bow welcoming Cat/Terpsichore as the number came to a close.
How refreshing it is to have Toni Basil on the jidges' panel this week! Not only is she a dance legend, with an affinity for more genres than most of these contestants have probably ever even heard of, but — what a revelation! — she actually thinks before she speaks! SYTYCD really needs a judge of her caliber just to balance out Mary ''I'm One of Marie Osmond's New Line of Screaming Dolls Come to Life'' Murphy and Nigel ''If She's a Woman, I Will Objectify'' Lythgoe. Basil might actually have usurped Lil' C as my favorite guest judge, although just by saying that I feel like I've betrayed Lil' C and myself.
NEXT: You only die twice (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20214941_2,00.html) NEXT: The one that got away (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20214941_3,00.html)

'So You Think You Can Dance' is such a 'special' treat
A TV show with substance and alot of class, it seems
Choreographers with a story to tell
All the dancers dance them so well
Plus all of the judges are all dance experts, you see
Unlike American Idol__'SYTYCD'__can do no wrong
Beats someone standing there trying to sing a song
So in our quest to find what's real
We can always try dancing, I feel
And so this show can remain here (http://www.fox.com/dance/) where it belongs

Joshua’s Training
August 10, 2008 11:50 PM
By Roger Catlin
Drew Tomlinson drops a note regarding the reference of “So You Think You Can Dance” winner Joshua Allen as “untrained.”
I am a choreographer and dance instructor. I own a performing arts studio in Texas called Rhythm Nation Studios. And want you to know that Joshua had 6 years of training with me.
I’m kind of getting frustrated that the media wants it to look like that he has had zero training, when in fact I worked very hard on Joshua Allen.
All you need to do is contact his family, and I can provide that info to you, so you can get the correct story on his training. It would be really nice to get a little credit on how hard I trained Joshua.
I am currently teaching at IDA-International Dance Academy on Hollywood Blvd...,Los Angeles and commute to my performing Arts studio in Dallas TX.
Glad to correct the record. The "untrained" moniker of course came from the judges on the show, who kept repeating it as the season went on.

The Top 10 dances of the season — “SYTYCD Season 4″
August 11, 2008 9:09 a.m.
By Laura Johnson
Josh won.
I am now at peace. All is right with the world.
Katee of course should have been a close second behind him as So You Think You Can Dance wrapped up season four. But as it was, she ended up getting money anyway because she was the first place girl. Twitch should have gotten her third place spot but it wasn’t to be.
This has been the season to rule them all. It has been the best — the toughest competition ever. And now it’s all over. At least we can look back and reflect upon the bits and pieces that have made it so great.
On the finale the judges got to choose their favorite dances of the season. Some I agreed with and others I just felt were way too obvious.
Here are my Top 10 dances of the season.
Some obvious and some not...

Joshua Allen Talks About 'So You Think You Can Dance' Win
August 12, 2008 06:32:50 by Joe Reality
Source: Reality TV Magazine (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/2008/08/12/joshua-allen-talks-about-so-you-think-you-can-dance-win/)
Every year the talent just seems to keep getting better and better on So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/category/so-you-think-you-can-dance/). Last week, Joshua Allen (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/joshua-allen/) beat out fellow top four finalists Twitch Boss (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/stephen-twitch-boss/), Katee Shean (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/katee-shean/), and Courtney Galiano (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/courtney-galiano/) to claim the title for the fourth season of So You Think You Can Dance. After his emotional victory, Joshua took time to talk to reporters about his experience on the show.
Judge Nigel Lythgoe often made a big deal about how well Joshua was doing for someone who didn’t have a lot of technical dance training. When asked to elaborate on his dance background before the show, Joshua said, “I took modern class, I took ballet classes, and I took some jazz classes, but I wasn’t technically trained, like William, Mark, or Matt. I just took classes, and I knew what everything was. I didn’t want to go into the competition dumbfounded and act like I didn’t know what anything was. I felt like if you want to do well, and be a well-rounded dancer, that you should know a lot of the different styles of dance. I took classes, but I wasn’t a technically trained dancer, of course.”
Joshua continued, “I started taking class when I was about ten, but it was only in the summer because I was a real sports fan, I would always run track and I was the varsity running back in high school, and I would mostly play sports; dance wasn’t that big for me. I was really a sports person, so it was always in the summer. If I were to add up all the technical training, as we would say, it would probably be about two and a half years, maybe almost three.”
When asked what he learned from his experience on the show, Joshua said, “That whenever you feel like you’re exhausted and you can’t give anymore; you have a lot more to give. The show pushes you that hard. We didn’t know our limits. This show pushes you to your limit, and it doesn’t accept anything less than your best. I’m a much better dancer than I was before I started the competition, now it’s ridiculous.”
When asked about him and Twitch getting dehydrated while practicing for the finale, Joshua said, “We do dance a lot of hours and it wasn’t that big of a deal. We really thought we were okay. We’re fine now. We just forgot to drink and replenish our bodies. We were just concentrating on having a good show and doing a good job that we kind of forgot to drink water, but everything is fine now, it’s cool.”
When asked if he ever thought he would eventually win the competition back when he was first auditioning, Joshua Allen said, “We always hoped we would, but you never really know if you would. I would always hope to, but it was just so crazy. In a way, I didn’t, but I would always hope for the best.”
When asked what went through his mind when he was announced as the winner, Joshua said, “I was just really shocked, I was just waiting for her to say Twitch’s name, because I knew a lot of people loved Twitch. It was really overwhelming, I was really just overjoyed, and I was so happy, really happy.”
When asked what the judges said to him after he won, Joshua replied, “They said congratulations, and you’ve worked hard, and you deserve it. Nigel said I was a benchmark for next season, for the next hip hop people that are untrained will have to step up their game now. That was pretty cool.”
When asked what he would like to say to his fans and supporters, Joshua said, “Just thank you so much for everything you’ve done and the voting. That means so much to me. Every time you voted, that was my little voice behind you saying thank you so much for every single vote you voted for me, and just believing in me that I could do it. I represent all of the hip hop and street dancers out there, and it was so cool that we took it this year, that hip hop got it this year.”

Nigel Lythgoe Thinks America Got “SYTYCD” Finale Right
August 12, 2008 02:00:35 by Paulene Hinds
Source: Reality TV Magazine (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/2008/08/12/nigel-lythgoe-thinks-america-got-so-you-think-you-can-dance-finale-right/)
Last season on So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/category/so-you-think-you-can-dance/), Nigel felt that home viewers weren’t correct in their voting strategy for the finale, but this year he feels that they got it right in voting Joshua Allen and Twitch Boss as the fourth season’s finalists.
Nigel Lythgoe was quoted as saying, “I think America got it pretty much right to have Twitch and Joshua there in the final two.”
Last year when Sabra Johnson took home the SYTYCD crown on the third season of the show he stated he thought runner-up Danny Tidwell should have taken the title because he was “far and away the best.”
Although the top two girls Katee Shean and Courtney Galiano gave it their all, the guys brightened the stage this season and Nigel stated, “The fans loved the boys’ charisma!”

'SYTYCD' Winner Joshua Allen Wants To Meet Michael Jackson
August 14, 2008 09:00:58 by Joe Reality
Source: Reality TV Magazine (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/2008/08/14/so-you-think-you-can-dance-winner-joshua-allen-wants-to-meet-michael-jackson/)
So You Think You Can Dance Winner Joshua Allen (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/joshua-allen/) has a bright future ahead of him. Joshua faced one of the most talented casts ever on So You Think You Can Dance (http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/category/so-you-think-you-can-dance/) on his route to becoming the first hip-hop dancer to ever win the show.
Now, that the So You Think You Can Dance season is over, Joshua shared some of his plans for the future during a recent conference call. Joshua said, “Living, accomplishing more goals in life, just doing everything I’ve always dreamed of doing, really, that’s what it means to me. Keeping my name out there, and just having so much fun, and everything I want to do, I hope it comes true for me because I worked so hard, and I’m a hard worker.”
In regards to his $250,000 cash prize for winning, Joshua said, “I’m going to save it, of course. I’m going to invest it, save it, and try to make it grow so I can be comfortable in the near future.”
One other thing that Joshua would like to do is meet and possibly work with some famous celebrities. Joshua said, “I really want to talk to Michael Jackson if I could. I know that’s such a big deal, I really want to meet him and talk to him. I really want to do stuff like Omarion, Chris Brown, Usher, and Ne-Yo and all of them. I haven’t been able to talk to them yet, but hopefully they’ll hear this and give me a ring.”

Nigel Lythgoe Tells About Choreographing Again After 26 Years
By Lynn on August 15th, 2008
So You Think You Can Dance executive producer Nigel Lythgoe not only tap danced on last weeks season finale, but he also choreographed the group dance for the Top 5 Guys. It was an upbeat, and totally fun dance to watch, but in this clip, we find out that it was the first time he had choreographed anything for 26 years!! (I think he proved that he can still do it!) ;-)
He tells what it’s like to try to do what he did when he was younger, now that he’s nearly 60 years old. I think he’s looking and acting quite a bit younger than anyone would suspect for his age!
I loved the routine and here’s how he went about creating it: Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7ys4qwaGH8&eurl=http://www.dancewatcher.com/2008/08/15/nigel-lythgoe-tells-about-choreographing-again-after-26-years/)

The So You Think You Can Dance? S4 tour kicked off in Washington last night. This is the first year I’ll be going to see this show (on Oct. 5th) so I was pretty anxious to see what they had in store.

Chelsie & Mark - Hip Hop “Bleeding Love”
Joshua - Solo
Kherington & Twitch - Vienesse Waltz
Katee & Joshua - Hip Hop “No Air”
Group Routine - You Can’t Stop The Beat
Here it comes. They could’ve done a MUCH better job planning this. There are so many needless routines here, like the Chelsie/Joshua Tango, Joshua/Katee Samba, Will/Courtney Hip Hop and especially that horrid Kherington/Twitch Hip Hop. Seriously?
And speaking of “Twitchington”….how on earth are they doing THREE routines while Mark & Chelsie and Courtney & Gev only get one each? I probably would’ve reconsidered buying tickets had I known that in advance. But hopefully seeing “Bleeding Love”, Will & Jessica’s “Adam and Eve” and “The Dance” will make up for it; LOVED all three of those!

Dance review: 'Dance' fever in San Jose
Rachel Howard, Chronicle Dance Correspondent
Saturday, September 27, 2008
Source: SFGate.com (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/09/26/DDOL136436.DTL)
Katee Shean got her due Thursday night at HP Pavilion. The San Jose native should have won Season 4 of the wildly popular "American Idol" spin-off "So You Think You Can Dance," but by call-in vote that crown went to hip-hop dancer Joshua Allen, with Katee receiving third place and $50,000. You would never have guessed Katee was anything but a champion, as friends and family in the packed stadium waved "Team Katee" flags during this fourth stop (Oakland is up next) on a 42-city live tour.
Katee was hardly the only dancer among the show's top 10 (plus special guests, top 20 finalists Chelsea Traille and Thayne Jasperson) drawing cheers, and for good reason. "So You Think You Can Dance" is no adequate replacement for decent arts education in the schools, but at this time of decimated funding, it's something of a pop-culture gift: People who would otherwise never watch dance are developing some inkling of appreciation for it, thanks to the show's huge range of dance styles. The live show may not be Martha Graham, but it's a lot more edifying than the latest Miley Cyrus extravaganza.
The show's nationwide auditions net real talent, and the show nurtures it. The dancers Thursday danced even better than they had during the season. Impish little Gev Manoukian, Chelsie Hightower with her spring-loaded legs, magnificently weird Mark Kanemura - everyone was in great form. Twitch Boss threatened to steal the show every time he grabbed the microphone; this guy has "TV personality" written all over him. But the standout moments were Katee-dominated.
Highlights:
6. Katee and Joshua in their "No Air" lyrical Hip-Hop duet: The "soldier far from home" drama that launched a partnership. Big applause on the spectacular move when Joshua dives into a handstand, Katee pulls down on his leg and he zips back to standing like a video on rewind.
5. Katee and Twitch in their Mia Michaels "Door" routine: One of Michaels' best pieces of choreography, performed with fabulous musicality. And Katee seems to be developing a juicy new control over her leg extensions.
4. Chelsie H. and Mark in their "Bleeding Love" duet: Another great drama from Hip-Hop choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon D'Umo, danced with chemistry and theatrical flair. Of course, it also doesn't hurt that Mark cleans up well in a suit.
3. Katee and Joshua in their "Baila, Baila" Samba: The famous "half-a-dress" dance. Is there any muscle in her body this girl can't roil and rumble?
2. Katee and Joshua in their Bollywood routine: A Hip-Hop guy and a contemporary dance gal take on Indian flair. They've got the "circling-on-knees" trick down now. A bounding, buoyant Eastern fantasia.
1. Katee and Will Wingfield in the "Imagine" Pas de Deux choreographed by Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rhoden: The two most technically gifted dancers in the season meet in a twisty, twining duet only they could have pulled off. To watch Will draw one arc from the floor up into a clean, crisp jump, his feet so fleet beneath him, was to see a dancer fine enough to be at home in a high-level ballet company. As Chelsea Traille said during the pre-show press session, "His career is going to be very nice."
And what of that pre-show press session? After agreeing to a page of interview rules and regulations, it ended up being just me and a handful of the dancers, who fortunately are far more down to earth than their handlers.
They talked about the manipulations of TV, especially the producers' pumped-up showdown between "trained" and "untrained" dancers. ("Anyone who makes it through Vegas week knows a pirouette and a plie," supposedly "untrained" Allen said, noting that the notion of "training" is "always a gray area." "I never tried to hide that I've had classes. But the way they edited kind of made me look like a liar.")
They talked about being in the short-lived bubble of fame created by a TV show, and they all said the real hard work lies ahead, after the tour. Mark said he wants to choreograph; Allen wants to try for a singing career. Katee said, "I just want to dance, however I can, for as long as my body will allow it." Her San Jose fans would have been happy to hear it.
So You Think You Can Dance: Live tour plays 7:30 p.m. Tues. at Oracle Arena, 7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland. Tickets: $33.25-$52. (415) 421-8497, www.ticketmaster.com.

Dance Review: So You Think You Can Dance Live
Published September 28, 2008
Written by Sherry Lipp
Source: Blogcritics.org (http://blogcritics.org/archives/2008/09/28/201837.php)
So You Think You Can Dance kicked off its live concert tour on September 20th in Tacoma, Washington. The Top 10 finalists from season four, plus three special guests (also from season four), are hitting over 40 cities across America. The tour concludes November 17th in Tampa, Florida.
In addition to attending the opening performance of the tour, I also had the opportunity to meet with five of the thirteen dancers. Season four winner Joshua Allen, as well as Katee Shean, Mark Kanemura, Chelsea Traille, and Jessica King (who dropped out of the competition mid-season due to broken ribs) chatted with me about the show and the tour. Only a few hours later they would take the stage in front of a sold-out Tacoma Dome audience.
As a neophyte to So You Think You Can Dance, I was more than a little unsure about how to conduct the interview. My worries dissolved quickly because of the disarming, easy-going nature of these talented performers. I welcomed the chance to get to know some of them prior to watching them in action.
Joshua admitted he had never been to the Seattle area before, nor to "over half of the places" he would visit during the tour. All of the dancers, who had flown in to Seattle that day, were excited to perform in front of the large - and hopefully enthusiastic - crowd that night. I asked what had drawn them to audition for So You Think You Can Dance. All of them stated that they were fans of the show and saw it as an opportunity to further their careers in dance. Chelsea considered the show to be like "watching training." She recorded each episode to watch many times over, learning from what she saw. She said, "If I could just get a second of that [training], or even just a glimpse of it - that would be amazing and so I tried out." Mark, who was teaching dance in Hawaii, saw the show as an opportunity to "break out of his comfort zone and do something different."
Joshua, who began his dance career as a street performer, had been trying to save up enough money to get out to Los Angeles for the audition. Then, much to his surprise, he learned that auditions were to be held right where he lived: Dallas, Texas. He made this discovery a mere week before the audition date. He tried out on the "coldest day in Dallas ever," waiting in long lines, and eventually won his ticket to Las Vegas.

Just watched True Blood last weeked, excellent tv show...
True Blood DVD (http://www.dvduz.com/True-Blood-Complete-Seasons-1-2-DVD-Box-Set-p-648.html)
There is no doubt in my mind that True Blood DVD (http://www.dvduz.com/True-Blood-Complete-Seasons-1-2-DVD-Box-
Set-p-648.html) is developing it's die-hard cult fans even as I write this.
Director Alan Ball has successfully adapted the show from the southern vampire series penned by
Charlaine Harris. The show incorporates the gritty, down-south, feel that permeates Harris's books.
The imagery, whether in landscape or in outfits, is incredible and really gives the viewer a chance
to feel the atmosphere of the story.
The music is unbeatable... The opening credits rolling by is enough to hook a person right there.
The acting by lead characters is great. Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse is incredible. She's
captured just the right tones of innocence, lively spark, and morals that personify Sookie. The only
thing that might be noted is that her accent seems a little off, I can't say how specifically it just
sounds wrong which is understandable as she's a Canadian.
